Teaching

Teaching Approach

As an instructor, I align my teaching approach with adult motivations for learning. My lessons are designed to be problem (and solution) oriented and to utilize students’ skills and life experiences. I believe when students understand the practical applicability of course content, they are more likely to retain information and apply these lessons in the “real world,” even after the course has ended. I have taught courses related to health equity and medical sociology as an Instructor of Record and several other courses as a teaching assistant. I have also taught in environments outside of academia, including the US Peace Corps, which has fostered a creative and flexible approach to curriculum development.
